Diaz Gives Barrymore A Rolex Purchased For Timberlake

Cameron Diaz has given Drew Barrymore a watch that she had originally bought for Justin Timberlake’s birthday present.

The actress had purchased the $12,000 vintage 18-karat rose gold Rolex Oyster watch, which had ‘I love you’ engraved on the case, for Timberlake’s 26th birthday in January.

However, Justin called it quits and the couple split up before the big day, leading Justin to lose out on the stylish timepiece.

A source said: “Cameron didn’t want the watch so she gave it to Drew.” Barrymore allegedly offered to pay for it, but Cameron insisted that it was a gift.

Barrymore, who just celebrated her 32nd birthday in a Hawaiian bash, also recently split from her man, Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti.

Diaz and Barrymore, who have been much closer since their breakups, have now made a diet pact to get back to their ‘date weights’.

A source said: “Cameron’s new regime started as a joke between her and Drew but now she’s keeping it up.”

Cate Blanchett

I'M WAITING FOR Cate Blanchett in a café in Balmain, a Sydney Harbour peninsula dotted with 19th-century cottages, close to the neighbourhood where she lives with her husband and two sons. Blanchett enters stage right, in jeans, flats and a leather flying jacket over a khaki blouse with a granddad collar. She is 5ft 8in, but appears taller. She shakes my hand heartily and flops down in her seat.

For women, Cate Blanchett is the blonde-joke antidote, happy to discuss her work but unwilling to use her personal life as interview fodder. Tabloids are
part of her world, yet she's avoided their glare. 'I don't read them,' she says. 'There is some terrible statistic that the average person only reads 300 books in their lifetime — with two children, even that seems unattainable. So why waste your time on tabloids? In order to switch off, I suppose, but I find ways other than processing junk to do that — like sleep.'

Statements like the above do much to fuel the view of Blanchett as just a little too earnest and serious for her own good; she's an actress whom George Clooney described as 'intimidating' before they first met. True, she is serious about acting and issues close to her heart, such as the environment, but, in the flesh, Blanchett is much warmer than you imagine. 'You have to let certain things go,' says Blanchett of juggling parenthood and career, 'and grooming seems to be the first one. It just means getting two hours' less sleep. The parent-teacher night, the theatre, dinner, jetlagged kids and emails waiting at home – it's going to be 1am before I get round to grooming. But I'm aware this problem isn't particular to me – and that I'm in a very privileged position.'

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock treads her own path in life, ignoring the standard A-list script: but with her marriage to a Hollywood biker boy and a new-found talent for serious drama, she tells Jenny Tucker why she wouldn't have it any other way.

Why did you take a long break from acting?
I was really burned out. I always apply myself 100 per cent to whatever I do and that means I often end up exhausted. But I don't depend on my acting career to make me happy. When I stopped acting, I restored an old building in New York City, plus I've got my own production company. The script for Crash was so beautifully written, though, I really wanted to do it.

You're not one for the Hollywood scene, are you?
If you're working hard, you don't have time to party. I love having fun, but I don't want to be captured on camera doing it. And nine times out of ten, I don't look that great. I try to live my life so that I can go to the grocery store and not be snapped while doing it.

Do you go to the Oscars?
The Academy Awards are amazing, but my films don't generally go to the Oscars. I've been a few times, but only on Crash was I involved with a winner. That was wonderful.

So… how are you finding married life? [Sandra's husband is Jesse James, a descendant of that cowboy, presenter of Discovery Channel's Monster Garage and owner of a customised bike shop.]
Well… it's fine. Do we have to talk about this?

You once said that marriage was like a death sentence. Obviously your perception has changed.
My perception hasn't changed, but I got lucky. I'm still very sceptical about relationships, but before Jesse nothing challenged that opinion. [My marriage] might not be conventional, but it's right for me. I don't care if we're not seen as a cool couple. I'm happy.

SPOONGATE: KATE WAS EJECTED!

KATE Moss is remaining tight-lipped about the extraordinary "spoongate" row at the awards.

The 33-year-old supermodel has refused to reveal why boyfriend Pete Doherty, 27, nicked a spoon, or explain their "suspicious" behaviour.

We revealed yesterday how the pair left after security caught the junkie rocker slipping a dessert spoon - which could be used for heating drugs - up his sleeve Turns out they were BOTH kicked out after subsequently being caught in an alleyway acting strangely.

At first, organisers gave some half-baked statement saying the pair had had a "row". They then said they were asked to leave because they'd been getting too "amorous".

But a security guard tells us that Kate and Pete were found "huddled together" in an alleyway outside. They were told to leave and not come back. At the start of the ceremony, they'd been snogging in a booth and were later seen going into the toilet together.

After they got their marching orders, it was left to former Clash star Mick Jones to present the Godlike Genius award to Primal Scream - instead of Kate. In his acceptance speech, an embarrassed looking Bobby Gillespie thanked his mate Kate, adding: "I don't know where she is."

NICOLA SEES RED AFTER BUST-UP

FLAME-HAIRED Nicola Roberts lost her temper with her new fella as a fun night out descended into a slanging match with some shoving thrown in.

The Girls Aloud singer and her boyfriend Carl Davis - who have only been dating for 12 weeks - had a furious bust-up at the NME awards where he accused her of making him feel like a "divvy".

And they were still arguing loudly hours later at the after-show party, where 21-year-old Nicola flipped and pushed Carl in the chest.

Nicola and bandmate Sarah Harding, 25, were at the ceremony at Hammersmith Palais, to present the Best Album award to Arctic Monkeys. She had bought Carl along for a night out. But as Muse and Kasabian picked up their gongs, Something Kinda Oooh started going down between the pair.

Carl, who is from Nicola's hometown of Runcorn, near Liverpool, got fed up with people pestering her for autographs. Suddenly he announced that he'd had enough and wanted to leave. When Nicola refused to go, Carl stormed out, barging into her on the way - and sending her flying into a guest.

"They were really laying into each other," reveals our source. "Carl was fuming that he'd been left on his own when Nicola and Sarah went up to present an award. He felt isolated because he didn't know anyone.

"Things got worse when she got back to the table because she and Sarah were mobbed by fans and autograph hunters. Carl flipped out and was shouting, 'You made me look like a divvy'.

"She was trying to explain that she was working, but he wasn't having any of it. He pushed her out of his way and stormed out."

Sobbing Nicola had to be consoled by Sarah and her pals, who tried to cheer her up by plying her with booze. But they hadn't banked on the couple locking horns for round two at the after-show party in the K-West Hotel in West London.

Nicola and Carl started rowing outside a lift, even louder than before. Suddenly she flipped and shoved him in the chest. The pair have only been dating for three months - after Nicola dumped her boyfriend of five years, student Carl Egerton.

Jake Gyllenhaal Calls Being an Uncle 'Great'

Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the new thriller Zodiac, but one of his favorite roles is doting uncle to neice Ramona.

"It's great, wonderful," the actor, 26, told PEOPLE. Ramona, who was born in October to Gyllenhaal's big sister Maggie and actor Peter Sarsgaard, is "incredible."

"Of course, I've brought over presents," he said Wednesday at the Cinema Society and GQ New York City screening of Zodiac. "She's not talking yet, but she looks amazing. I revel in her growth. It's an amazing process to watch – and to watch my sister also."

In Zodiac, Gyllenhaal plays Robert Graysmith, the San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist obsessed with the case of the Zodiac killer who terrorized the Bay Area starting in the late '60s. The actor said he picked up some of that passion himself.

"I think it was something natural when you're shooting for 110 days, being immersed in a case where there is so much information and every scene consists of making sure that the dialogue is so detailed," he said.

Still: "I wouldn't say I find a lot of similarities with my character. Obsession has many manifestations. I always looked at it like he loves puzzles. He's like a kid in a candy store. It's an odd candy store, obviously. But for him, there was a joy in every clue that he got."

Katherine Heigl 'Embarrassed' by Contract Flap

The verbal slugfest between Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl and the show's producers has entered a new round, with Heigl zinging her bosses for going public on their salary dispute.

"I am embarrassed that this has become a public matter and disappointed that Touchstone felt it necessary to divulge private employment information," Heigl, 28, said in a statement Thursday.

"I had hoped I would be able to deal with this issue confidentially with my bosses. I dropped out of the renegotiation simply because I wanted to treat myself with the respect I was not getting from them."

But Grey's fans will be happy to know that Heigl, who plays Izzie Stevens on the ABC hit, still loves her character. "No matter how unhappy I am about their decision to respond to this publicly, I continue to be passionate about and committed to this character," she said.

The actress dropped out of contract talks on Tuesday, a well-placed source told PEOPLE at the time, explaining: "Katie is disappointed and hurt that Touchstone doesn't value her as much as her other costars, especially Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington."

In response, ABC Television said in a statement Wednesday that Heigl wasn't going anywhere: "We have a longterm contract to ensure she'll be with the show for several years to come."

'American Idol' cuts four more singers

"American Idol" viewers squashed the dreams of four more aspiring singers Thursday night, but Antonella Barba, the focus of recent attention over some racy Internet photos, was not one of them.

Alaina Alexander, Leslie Hunt, Nicholas Pedro and A.J. Tabaldo were voted off in the phone ballotting, which drew about 32 million calls and text messages. Sixteen hopefuls remain of the 24 who began the elimination rounds. Perhaps the night's biggest surprise was that 20-year-old Barba, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, was staying. "I thought you were worse than last week," Simon Cowell said Wednesday after her less-than-stellar cover of Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me."

A close friend of Barba has denied she was the subject of some graphically sexual pictures purported to be of her that were posted on the Internet last week. Another surprise: The early elimination of the talented Tabaldo, 22, who gave a rousing rendition of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good." Paula Abdul couldn't hide her disappointment.

"Truthfully, this is a singing competition," Abdul said Thursday. "I don't feel tonight reflects this." Tabaldo's song choice could be bad luck for "Idol" contestants -- after all, Hunt also performed "Feeling Good" this week. The 24-year-old Chicago resident told Ryan Seacrest she "had a feeling" she might be going home.

An emotional Alexander, who sang the Dixie Chicks anthem "Not Ready To Make Nice," was too choked up to get through the song after Seacrest asked her to perform it one last time. (The "Idol" females were there to help the 24-year-old California girl along -- and give a group hug.)

Pedro's take on "Fever" wasn't enough to keep him on the Fox talent show. "It's about standing out in the crowd," said Cowell, who criticized the smoky-voiced singer, 25, for what he called a lack of charisma.

Thursday's show also featured a performance by "Idol" also-ran Kellie Pickler, who crooned "I Wonder," a song from her country album "Small Town Girl."

"American Idol," now running three times a week and again ruling the ratings, will return March 13 to a twice-weekly schedule. The final 12 will be split evenly between men and women. So far this season, the show's sixth, men and women have been competing separately. The winner will be crowned during the finale in May.

AP: We ignored Paris Hilton

NEW YORK (AP) -- So you may have heard: Paris Hilton was ticketed the other day for driving with a suspended license.

Not huge news, even by celebrity-gossip standards. Here at The Associated Press, we put out an initial item of some 300 words. But it actually meant more to us than that.

It meant the end of our experimental blackout on news about Paris Hilton.

It was only meant to be a weeklong ban -- not the boldest of journalistic initiatives, and one, we realized, that might seem hypocritical once it ended. And it wasn't based on a view of what the public should be focusing on -- the war in Iraq, for example, or the upcoming election of the next leader of the free world, as opposed to the doings of a partygoing celebrity heiress/reality TV star most famous for a grainy sex video.

No, editors just wanted to see what would happen if we didn't cover this media phenomenon, this creature of the Internet gossip age, for a full week. After that, we'd take it day by day. Would anyone care? Would anyone notice? And would that tell us something interesting? (Marquee blog: What do you think?)

It turned out that people noticed plenty -- but not in the way that might have been expected. None of the thousands of media outlets that depend on AP called in asking for a Paris Hilton story. No one felt a newsworthy event had been ignored. (To be fair, nothing too out-of-the-ordinary happened in the Hilton universe.)

The reaction was to the idea of the ban, not the effects of it. There was some internal hand-wringing. Some felt we were tinkering dangerously with the news. Whom, they asked, would we ban next? Others loved the idea. "I vote we do the same for North Korea," one AP writer said facetiously.

The experiment began on February 19. A few days before, the AP had written from Austria about Hilton's appearance at the Vienna Opera ball, just ahead of her 26th birthday. We didn't cover her weekend birthday bash in Las Vegas.

Bahamas funeral for Anna Nicole

Mourners have attended the funeral of the former model Anna Nicole Smith at a church in the Bahamian capital, Nassau.

Pallbearers in pink ties carried her coffin down a red carpet. She will be buried in a pink gown and tiara beside her son Daniel, 20, who died last year. Ms Smith died aged 39 on 8 February in a Florida hotel room of unknown causes. Her death has triggered legal battles in the US and the Bahamas over control of her body and custody of her baby, who could inherit millions of dollars.

Three hundred people are thought to have attended the private funeral service at the Mount Horeb Baptist Church. Hundreds of islanders and tourists massed behind police-guarded barricades as guests arrived in white limousines.

Ms Smith's body arrived at the church in a white hearse and her mahogany coffin was draped in a rhinestone-studded pink blanket. The pews were decorated with pink roses.

Before the service, Richard Milstein, the court-appointed guardian of her five-month-old daughter, Danielynn, asked the journalists and onlookers for "respect and solemnity".

"Today we share our grief with all of you. Today we come to you to carry out the final, most sacred, solemn act provided to any individual," he said. Ms Smith will be buried at Lakeview Memorial Park cemetery in a grave next to her son. About 30 friends and family members are expected to attend.

The View singer's cocaine penalty

The lead singer of chart-topping rock band The View has been fined £1,000 for possessing cocaine.

Kyle Falconer's conviction will make it "next to impossible" for the group to tour the US, his solicitor said. At Dundee Sheriff Court, the 19-year-old admitted possessing the class A drug after he was arrested outside a city student union. The Dundee band, which has received an NME award, debuted at the top of the UK album charts earlier this year.

Falconer was arrested in the early hours after his group performed at Abertay University last August. He admitted to police officers that he was in possession of the cocaine, which had a street value of £150.

Jeans commercial

Defence agent Billy Boyle told the court that Falconer had been handed the drug by music industry insiders who had been at that evening gig. Mr Boyle, who said the singer had not taken any of the substance, asked for an absolute discharge, as a conviction would make it hard for the singer to get a visa to tour North America. He added that The View had turned down £1m for a jeans commercial and the launch of the band's hit album, Hats Off To The Buskers, had already been delayed in the US.

The View
The band had to cancel a short tour, starting in new York

However, Sheriff Paul Arthurson told Falconer it was "simply not realistic" to consider an absolute discharge, which would have meant that after six months he would not have to declare his conviction.

He told the singer, who declined to comment as he left court: "If you are in the public eye you have certain responsibilities and I ask you to bear that in mind in future." When the charge was pending, Falconer and band mates Steve Morrison, 19, Keiren Webster, 20, and Pete Reilly, also 20, had to cancel an eight-date tour which should have started in New York this month.

Town is braced for Hurley wedding

Traffic restrictions have been placed around Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire ahead of the wedding of actress Liz Hurley on Saturday.

Police said traffic cones were being placed along Vine Street, Castle Street and Rushley Lane in Winchcombe.

Ms Hurley's marriage to Indian businessman Arun Nayar is expected to draw crowds of spectators to the town.

Police considered creating a one-way system but revised the plan after concerns from residents and retailers.

Insp Erik Sherwood said: "We will have our normal numbers of officers on duty in the area, however we do recognise that there is likely to be an influx of onlookers and media to the town which may cause disruption to the town and its residents.

"In order to minimise the possible effects on the residents of Winchcombe we will be providing two officers who will respond to and deal with incidents as they arise."

Britney Spears Goes Out For AA Meeting; Draws On Herself

Britney Spears ignited more worries about her mental health after emerging from rehab with bizarre scribbling on her hands on Thursday.

The former pop queen emerged from the Promises facility, hiding her recently-shaved head under a wig and a hat. Britney was leaving the grounds to attend an Alcoholics’ Anonymous meeting. At the same time, onlookers seemed to be captivated by strange doodles appearing all over the backs of Spears’ hands.

According to Life Style Extra sourrces, flowers and the word ‘Push’ could be made out among the scribbles. Though this seems odd, a smiling Britney met with photographers and an eyewitness described the troubled mother-of-two as “relaxed and in good spirits”.

Since Britney returned to the center on February 21st, it has been indicated that the singer could be suffering from post-natal depression.

A source said: “Britney had two children in very quick succession and saw her marriage fall apart. It looks like she was suffering from some sort of depression and it wasn’t helped by the cocktail of alcohol, drugs and prescription pills she was taking.”

Angelina Jolie’s Vietnamese Adoption Underway

Rumors and speculation surrounding Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s plans to adopt yet another child have been swirling for the past few months. It has now officially been confirmed that Angelina Jolie has filed papers to adopt a Vietnamese child, the country’s top adoption official announced today.

According to ap sources, a U.S. adoption agency representing Jolie filed the papers at Vietnam’s International Adoption Agency, said Vu Duc Long, the agency’s director. "She just filed the papers this week,” Long informed the press.

Jolie and Pitt, not married, but living together in New Orleans, have three children: 5-year-old son Maddox, adopted from Cambodia; 2-year-old daughter Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia; and another daughter, Shiloh, who was born to the couple in May 0f 2006.

The name of the U.S. adoption agency working with Jolie was not named, but it was confirmed that Angelina applied to adopt as a single parent.

The adoption story first started when Jolie and Pitt made a surprise visit to Vietnam over Thanksgiving, when they visited the Tam Binh orphanage, on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City.

Since that time, Jolie’s mother passed away.... leading Angelina to a long lasting episode off grief, in which she supposedly was not eating. This has many wondering whether Angelina’s mental state is at the right place to be bringing a new child into her life.

Maybe Angelina figures that the adoption will help her to keep her mind off of her late mother.

Jessica Simpson Joins John Mayer For NYC Night Out

After attending the Academy Awards with sweetheart Jessica Simpson, John Mayer left to head back out on tour. The time apart apparently is too much for Jessica, as she headed cross country to meet back up with her beau.

According to Access Hollywood, Simpson boarded a plane at LAX on Wednesday and flew into the Big Apple where she reunited with Mayer, who had been on the east coast performing.

"The canoodling couple was photographed at NY hotspot Stereo at an after-party following Mayer’s Wednesday night gig. John and Jess were spotted holding hands, kissing and cuddling in the corner of the club,” AH sources noted.

Later they drove back together to their hotel, according to the report.

The NY Post added that Jessica also joined John again during his concert Thursday at Studio Mezmor on West 28th Street for the Robin Hood Foundation.

Amazingly enough, still no duet from the two… most likely by John’s choosing.

Katherine Heigl: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Contract Dispute

The hit television show ’Grey’s Anatomy‘ has been plagued by one problem after another. Now that the controversy surrounding Isaiah Washington’s anti-gay remarks has subsided, People magazine reported recently that Katherine Heigl, who plays “Izzie” on the show, was “disappointed” and “hurt” that Touchstone didn’t “value her as much as her co-stars, especially Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington.”

Network giant ABC, however, has said that despite their long-term contract with the star, Heigl was recently offered a raise. A beaten down Katherine Heigl is fighting back against ABC and Touchstone, producers of the show for making her look bad in public, reports TMZ.

Following this embarrassing incident, Heigl has just released the following statement:

“I am embarrassed that this has become a public matter and disappointed that Touchstone felt it necessary to divulge private employment information. I had hoped I would be able to deal with this issue confidentially with my bosses. I dropped out of the renegotiation simply because I wanted to treat myself with the respect I was not getting from them. No matter how unhappy I am about their decision to respond to this publicly, I continue to be passionate about and committed to this character.”

That statement came just moments after an earlier statement released by ABC:

“Katherine is an integral part of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and its success,” said the ABC statement. “Fortunately, we have a long term contract to ensure she’ll be with the show for several years to come.”

“In recognition of her tremendous talent and value to the show, we recently approached Katherine with an offer to raise her compensation significantly above the terms of her current contract,” ABC acknowledged. “We were surprised to see this gesture reported negatively in the press, and want to reassure fans that she will continue as Izzie Stevens.”

Anna Nicole Smith Bahamian Funeral A Go

Twenty-two days after her death, Anna Nicole Smith is finally set to be buried in the Bahamas tomorrow, March 2nd, after her mother dropped her appeal for custody of Anna Nicole’s body.

In the most recent event in the courtroom drama, Virgie Arthur has decided to abandon her efforts to challenge the decision made by a Florida appeal court that custody of the model’s remains should go to Richard Milstein, the court-appointed guardian of her five-month-old daughter, Dannielynn.

In an earlier court filing, professional guardian Richard Milstein reminded everyone that “every witness including her mother, Virgie Arthur, testified that Anna Nicole Smith expressed an interest in being buried in either California or the Bahamas.”

The judges also noted Smith’s purchase of a four-person burial plot in the Bahamas, where she laid her son to rest. The court suggested her action could be considered written evidence as to where she wanted to be laid to rest.

“How do you explain the fact that this is where she buried her son with whom she had such a close relationship?” Judge Barry J. Stone asked Virgie Arthur’s attorney.

“Anna Nicole Smith’s last ascertainable wish with respect to the disposition of her remains was that she be buried in the Bahamas next to her son Daniel Wayne Smith. This finding is not essentially disputed,” the three judges of the appeals court wrote in their five-page opinion issued in West Palm Beach, according to the LA Times. As a result of these facts, Virgie’s attorney Tom Pirtle said: “It’s going to be difficult to appeal the ruling, so we’re not going to appeal.”

Virgie had wanted Anna Nicole to be buried near the family home in Texas, and for Daniel’s body to be exhumed and buried beside her. Milstein nixed that plan by deciding that Anna Nicole will be buried in the Bahamas next to her son Daniel, who died last September.

Milstein said: “The funeral is set for Friday. I wish to uphold the decorum and dignity that should be maintained throughout this process, for the sake of Dannielynn and the memories she will have of her mother’s funeral.”

Sienna Miller Upset Over Trampy Reputation

From the much talked about sex scene in her new movie, ‘Factory Girl,’ to being linked with a string of famous men since splitting from Jude Law last year, Sienna Miller has taken on the recent reputation as being a little bit on the trampy side.

The actress is not happy with this depiction and insists that she hasn’t dated half the guys she has supposedly been linked to. Sienna, who is alleged to have had brief relationships with Josh Hartnett, P Diddy and Hayden Christensen among others, told Empire magazine: “It makes me angry that I have been linked to every single actor I have ever met. I’ve just come out of a relationship I was in for three years, and before that I was in a relationship for two years, so I’ve actually had a boyfriend for five years. But I have this reputation that I’ve shagged this bloke and this bloke.”

Miller continued, “There’s no truth in most of this. I meet Josh Hartnett and suddenly people are wondering what our babies would look like. Because I’m inherently rebellious, I think, ‘Why can’t I have male friends who are actors? This is my world. Why should I change and be discreet, that isn’t who I am.’ ”

Meanwhile, Sienna was recently photographed sunbathing topless on a beach with model Jamie Burke, her alleged new boyfriend.

Sienna would probably have something to say about it, but boyfriend may be too strong of a word… how about her alleged new fling. Sounds about right.

Urgent meeting on TV phone calls

The premium rate phone lines watchdog is to hold an urgent meeting with broadcasters and programme-makers amid probes into viewers' calls into shows.

Icstis said action was needed "to ensure that viewers can take part in TV shows with confidence".

It is investigating reported problems with calls to Channel 4's Richard and Judy and BBC One's Saturday Kitchen.

ITV admitted that a mistake with an interactive vote on X Factor led to viewers being overcharged by £200,000.

Icstis chairman Sir Alistair Graham told BBC Radio 4's You and Yours: "Broadcasters and others should be looking as a matter of urgency at how the recent problems came about, and at what needs to be done to prevent them happening again."

Presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan have axed the You Say, We Pay quiz on their Channel 4 show following claims viewers were told to call to participate after a contestant had already been chosen.

Channel 4 launched its own investigation, while insisting it would not "knowingly mislead viewers in any way".

Hugh Grant Handcuffed At Movie Premiere

Hugh Grant had quite the interesting evening at the Dutch premiere of his new movie, ‘Music and Lyrics’. It has, quite amusingly, been reported that a woman handcuffed herself to the actor, causing quite the stir.

Grant was left stunned when Cielke Sijben, a journalist working for Dutch TV network 101 TV, lunged forward as he walked the red carpet at the Amsterdam Pathe and clamped a metal handcuff on his wrist, attaching herself to him, reports Entertainmentwise.

The befuddled actor had to stand for 10 minutes while police detained Sijben and fire fighters were summoned to free him from the cuffs.

After they were finally cut off, the reportedly calm 46-year-old returned to his red-carpet obligation, promoting the film, in which he stars alongside Drew Barrymore. He did so while Sijben was arrested by police in the background.

An onlooker was quoted by SF Gate as saying, “It was incredible. She appeared from nowhere and Grant couldn’t believe it was happening. But he was the ultimate professional. He just stood in silence and waited for the fire fighters to free him. He did look relieved when he disappeared into the theater… she could have been a maniac.”

Could have been a maniac??? I don’t know what the qualifications of maniac are these days, but handcuffing yourself to another person is NOT normal behavior. Maybe Hugh was calm because he knew that it would get the movie some extra press coverage… a la this article.

Ben Affleck & Bruce Willis’ Call-Girl Troubles

Not only did they star together in the movie ‘Armageddon’, but Ben Affleck and Bruce Willis might have something a little more embarrassing in common. Both actors have been included in a list of alleged patrons of a call-girl service run by the former world-renowned madam, Jody “Babydol” Gibson.

Due in stores Thursday February 29th, her new autobiography, Secrets of a Hollywood Super Madam, alleges that both Affleck and Willis were patrons of her call-girl service before she was arrested eight years ago.

Gibson claims to reveal the details of Affleck’s “steamy night with a hot blonde” as well as a “wild time” involving Willis, in a snippet from her Website

"This book is about my life servicing the rich and famous…and their sex, sex, sex!” Gibson wrote in the introduction to her memoir.

Other alleged patrons on her list of clients included Jim Belushi, Gary Busey, Tommy Lasorda, Don Simpson, and Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Willis and Lasorda said through their lawyers that they never used Gibson’s service and had no idea why their names appeared in her records. They accused Gibson of exploiting their fame to boost her book sales.

“I have never heard of this woman and don’t know why she would accuse me of something like this,” a statement from Lasorda read. “But if she prints these lies, I intend to sue.”

Willis’ attorney, Marty Singer, said: “The story is a complete fabrication. Bruce doesn’t know this woman. He’s never even spoken to her.”

On the other hand, Jones said he might have used Gibson’s escort service. “It’s possible,” he said. “I crossed paths with her back then. She was a madam, but if I remember right, she wanted to be a singer in a band.”

Authorities never prosecuted any of Gibson’s clients, and there is no independent evidence that the men she listed actually patronized her service.

According to E!, Gibson used the name “Sasha” in her role as a madam and started her California Dreamin’ escort service in 1986 while trying to launch her career as a pop star.

“By the time she was arrested in 1999, she had expanded her business to 16 states and Europe, and was charging customers between $500 and $3,000 for personal encounters with the more than 300 women she employed, among them porn stars and models,” E! reports.

“She was convicted in April 2000 of running an international prostitution ring and served 22 months in Chowchilla, one of California’s toughest prisons, where she suffered a fractured skull after being beaten by fellow inmates,” reports Sarah Hall.

Since her 2002 release from prison, Gibson has continued her efforts to break into the entertainment industry, launching a clothing line and shopping the film rights to her life story. The movie deal will probably hinge on how well the book does.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden Engagement Rumors

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden seem to be in a hurry to move their relationship to the next level, with rumors of an engagement surrounding the duo.

All of the speculation began when Richie and Madden visited Los Angeles jewelry store XIV Karats about a week ago.

Life and Style reports that “Nicole tried on several ruby necklaces before buying one for half-price at $3,350. The couple then looked at the engagement rings, which were also in the sale.”

An employee of the jewelry store told the weekly magazine , “Of course he would never get her a half-price ring. You can tell they’re crazy about each other. His arm was around her the entire time.”

After further reports emerged that the couple were moving in together in LA, a picture showing Richie sporting a diamond ring added further indication that the two are planning to do more than just live together. Richie was photographed by X17 with a diamond band on her ring finger while on a lunch date with pal Mischa Barton.

While the engagement is currently speculation, the two are moving in together… somewhere. Us Weekly reported that “the tattooed twosome were indeed house hunting together, looking for a pad to call their own.”

A source confirmed to the magazine, “Nicole hasn’t moved in with him yet...but they are looking at places.”

Nicole, the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, began dating Joel late last year, shortly after he split from Hilary Duff.

Katie Holmes & Victoria Beckham Feud Ignites

Having not even completed her move to the States, Victoria Beckham has already managed to get herself caught up in a feud with, now seemingly ex-pal, Katie Holmes.

The fallout between the two is thought to have occurred after the former Spice Girl “delivered biting statements that demeaned scientologists and their faith.” Beckham had allegedly said that, “Scientology is nonsense,” and according to earlier reports she told her friends that she would never join the Church of Scientology.

Beckham told a friend that: “There’s no way I’d spend any money on that nonsense,” regarding the “cultish religion,” according to the New York Daily News.

In response, Katie reportedly snubbed Victoria at the Academy Awards held Sunday in LA. After the ceremony, Beckham attended Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Oscars party while Holmes passed on the opportunity and attended the Vanity Fair party with husband Tom Cruise instead.

Following Sunday’s Oscars, the Daily Mail reported that Victoria was “forced to lunch in sushi restaurant Matsuhisa alone,” as Katie clearly failed to meet her dinner arrangements.

The Daily Mail also pointed out that Holmes had made many efforts to avoid Beckham while in Los Angeles and several other locations.

In this sad scenario, it seems as if Tom is fuming over the scientology comments behind the scenes, forbidding Katie to have contact with Victoria. Unfortunately for Victoria, she’s struck a touchy subject and ironing out this problem may be a difficult chore.

Pete Doherty Moves In With Kate Moss; Gets Penguin High

It wasn’t long ago that Kate Moss separated from, and was “infuriated” with, Pete Doherty over breaking a commitment to stay drug-free. Less than a month later, Moss has opened her door and let Doherty move back in.

The Babyshambles frontman was seen carrying a gold disc, banjo, clothes and a baby-seat into the supermodel’s luxurious north London apartment, reports AHN.

A source revealed, “It was hilarious, Pete was shifting all this tatty stuff into Kate’s posh home. Pete was carrying his gold disc and wherever that disc is, Pete is. If he has moved it into Kate’s it means he is staying there permanently.”

As he carried his belongings into Kate’s property, a shirtless Pete stopped to entertain onlookers by strumming on his banjo.

According to the All Headline News reports, Kate, 33, was also sporting a diamond ring on her engagement finger.

“Pete, 27, was kicked out of his east London apartment after owing $15,000 in unpaid rent. After he left, photographs were released showing blood-spattered walls, drug paraphernalia, empty beer cans and cigarette butts strewn everywhere. The property’s landlord, Andreas Panayiotou, claimed that Doherty was the “worst tenant” he had ever had,” reports AHN.

Also noteworthy, Pete caused an uproar at the Cotswold Wildlife Park, in Oxfordshire, when he threw what is rumored to have been a marijuana cigarette to the penguins. Apparently, the antic was an attempt to impress Kate… oh, so romantic.

A source told The Sun, “Everyone knew he was smoking grass. He was joking about getting the penguins stoned. He threw them his joint and it looked like one penguin gulped it down. It seemed very wobbly.”

On Tuesday night, London Zoo’s chief veterinary officer blasted Pete’s antics. “Feeding a penguin cannabis could be fatal. It contains toxins that attack the nervous system and liver,” an irate Andrew Routh exclaimed.

Paris Hilton Nabbed For Driving With Suspended License

Now that the DUI case has been settled and the Parisexposed Website is shut down, Paris Hilton has made another move landing her back in the legal system. In a breaking news story reported by the ap, Paris was cited for driving on a suspended license after police stopped her for speeding and driving without her headlights late Tuesday night.

Hilton was pulled over on Sunset Boulevard in her blue Bentley Continental GTC at 11 p.m., said Sgt. Duane Allen Jr. of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

Always quick on the scene, her publicist Elliot Mintz told the ap, “She was on her way home from buying dvd’s at Virgin Megastore in West Hollywood after spending the day at home for a photo shoot.”

Paris was alone and there was no sign of drinking or drugs, Sgt. Allen reported. Hilton was issued a ticket for driving on a suspended license, a misdemeanor, and released. She then was picked up by a friend and taken home after the incident. Her car was impounded and a court date was not immediately set.

The kicker is, apparently, Ms. Hilton was unaware of the fact that her license was suspended in the first place. While this is a detail that is quite handy to know, surprisingly enough, her publicist was in the dark as well.

“When she called me, she asked if her license was suspended,” Mintz reported to the ap early Wednesday. “If that’s the case, she and I are unaware of it.”

In January, Hilton pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving stemming from her Sept. 7 arrest in Hollywood and was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines. That case was reduced from an original charge of driving under the influence.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Accused Of Oscar Party Assault

It has recently been uncovered that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is being investigated by Los Angeles police for allegedly attacking a man at an Oscars party.

Gerard Rechnitzer claims that Diddy punched him in the jaw after he made objections to Diddy’s advances towards his fiancee at a Roosevelt Hotel party on Sunday night.

According to TMZ, Rechnitzer watched as Diddy, surrounded by his posse, attempted to woo his girlfriend and invite her to his private after-party. Gerard was reportedly returning from the restroom, when he spotted Diddy making his move.

When Rechnitzer stepped in to ask his fiancee to leave with him, Combs allegedly let his fists fly.

Rechnitzer, a real estate broker, called 911. The LAPD came out and took a report, but Combs and his crew had left before the cops arrived.

TMZ also was told that the LAPD have recently been in contact with Rechnitzer, along with as many as five witnesses who observed the incident.

Rap star claims police brutality

US rapper Foxy Brown has claimed she was a victim of police brutality when she was arrested on battery charges at a beauty store in Florida last week.

She held a press conference at a Baptist church in Brooklyn to deny police claims that she spat on the store owner and resisted an officer.

She claimed she was dragged half-naked out of the store's bathroom and picked on by police because she was black.

"The only crime I'm guilty of is being a young black woman," she said.

The 27-year-old star, real name Inga Marchand, denies charges of resisting an officer and simple battery.

She could be sent to jail when she appears in court later this week for violating probation.

In October, she was sentenced to three years probation for assaulting two New York nail salon workers in 2004.

Kaiser Chiefs playing Glastonbury

Chart-topping rock group Kaiser Chiefs have confirmed that they will play at the Glastonbury festival this June.

"All the rumours are flying around, and they're all true," said singer Ricky Wilson, whose band currently has the number one single, Ruby.

"I read in the NME that we're doing Glastonbury," he told BBC 6 Music. "They're right."

Music fans have until Wednesday to register for Glastonbury, which will feature Arctic Monkeys and The Who.

Only those who leave their details online can buy tickets when they go on sale on 1 April, to make it harder for touts to obtain passes.

Last Thursday, festival organiser Michael Eavis said that more than 175,000 people had already completed the process.

About 140,000 tickets will be available to the public for the festival, held between 22 and 24 June, once the allocation for staff and security teams has been taken into account.

Singer Melly has early dementia

Colourful veteran jazz singer George Melly is one of the growing numbers of people in the UK with dementia, his wife has revealed.

Diana Melly told the BBC the singer was in the early stages of the condition - but it had not stopped him performing.
She said the illness had made her husband quite impatient, and obsessed about things.
She told BBC News 24: "I first noticed about two years ago, that his memory was really pretty awful."

She added: "He's always been, as it were, the absent minded professor, so a lot of it was not easy to spot, because he's never been able to change a light bulb or do anything that most of us could do.

"But his memory just got very bad."
Mrs Melly was speaking as a new report warned that the number of people with dementia in the UK could top 1.7 million by the year 2051.

She said her husband was absolutely fine when on stage, and had not trouble remembering the words of songs.

Nursing support

She said they had the support of Admiral Nurses - who work with family carers to help people with dementia - and would be all right.

However, she added: "But most people aren't." She also admitted that helping her husband had left her "quite stressed".

"I'm always awake now between three and five in the morning, it's always two hours in the night when I can't sleep."

The singer sparked health fears when he collapsed on stage last month. The 80-year-old was performing with Digby Fairweather's Half Dozen at the Old Market in Hove, East Sussex, when he suddenly fell ill. He was kept overnight in the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton suffering from suspected dehydration. The Liverpool-born entertainer and writer is known to have health problems including emphysema and lung cancer.

Deep Purple live album withdrawn

A live album by rock band Deep Purple is being withdrawn from sale after the lead singer asked fans not to buy it.

Ian Gillan said the album, recorded in Birmingham and titled NEC 1993, was one of their worst ever concerts and it had been re-released without his knowledge.
He said tensions within the band led to a bad performance, adding: "It was coming to the end, it was awful."

Sony BMG said it was recalling the album and would investigate why Gillan was not told about its plans.

Group feud

A spokesman for the company said: "Sony BMG is not in the business of releasing albums without the knowledge of the artists.

"It is in our interests to work with artists, so they can promote their records and continue to work with us."

He added that the album had been released before and it was unclear why this issue had caused a problem.

Gillan said he and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore were barely on speaking terms at the time of the 1993 concert.

Rock legend

"It was one of the lowest points of my life - all of our lives, actually," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

"In fact, it lasted five or six shows after that Birmingham show.

"Then Ritchie left the band. And we've had 13 years of stability ever since then."

Deep Purple were one of the highest profile heavy metal bands of the 1970s. Their song Smoke on the Water entered rock legend for its distinctive guitar riff.

Bobby Brown Jailed Over Child Support

Singer Bobby Brown was sentenced to 30 days in jail by a Massachusetts judge, unless he pays $19,000 in child support for two of his children in what is the R&B singer’s second arrest in the state in less than a year. Brown, who is in the process of a divorce from Whitney Houston, was arrested on Sunday February 25, while visiting his daughter in Massachusetts.

This past October, an arrest warrant was issued after Brown failed to show up at a hearing on overdue child support for Kim Ward, the mother of two of his children. Brown paid $11,000 in late child support after a judge ruled he would be arrested if he entered Massachusetts without paying what he owed.

Since that time, Bobby has let his payments go again, leading to his arrest. The 38-year-old’s representatives said they were working to collect the money, which will free Bobby upon payment.

Brown’s lawyer Phaedra Parks said: “Although this agreement was put in place when he was Bobby Brown the star, this agreement is being enforced when he is not always able to find work.”

“He hasn’t made an album in quite some years.”

Brown started his career with the group New Edition before going on to have a string of solo hits, a successful album with Don’t Be Cruel, and a Grammy award. Obviously, Bobby Brown’s not a saver. To sell millions of albums, win a grammy, and end up in jail over not being able to pay $19,000 seems almost surreal. Someone needs to get this man a record deal ASAP!

Victoria Beckham Signs NBC Reality Show Deal

While David Beckham is set to receive $27.5 mil over the next five years as the marquee member of the LA Galaxy, wife, Victoria Beckham, is pitching in as well. The former “Posh Spice” has been awarded her own reality show on NBC, undoubtedly worth millions.

Victoria signed up for a slice-of-life show that will follow her move to America, the Daily Mail reported. Former Spice Girls manager and American Idol producer, Simon Fuller, who also brokered her husband’s $250 million soccer deal, worked the deal for the former Spice Girl.

“The Americans were falling over themselves to sign Victoria up for a TV show, but we had to choose the right deal for her. NBC won out in the end as they have really taken a shine to Vic’s hilarious sense of humor and they want to capitalize on this,” Fuller said.

If successful, the show will most likely take on a format similar to Newlyweds and The Osbournes. It just depends on whether or not Americans take to Victoria and David the same way that Europe embraced the star couple.

Drew Barrymore Sends Mixed Messages To Lindsay Lohan

Just after the release of pictures showing Drew Barrymore partying in Hawaii, the actress has offered advice to Lindsay Lohan over not following in her troubled footsteps.

To refresh your memory, Barrymore was a child star in the movie ‘ET’ and entered rehab at the age of 13 for alcohol and drug addictions. Barrywmore worries that Lindsay is ending up the same way, just a little older.

Drew said in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “I know Lindsay, and I like her very much. You just have to be as graceful as you can. You know, you flub, you flub. And that’s life. I think - do what you want, but just be professional.”

The advice from Barrymore is well intended, but the timing is a little askew. Paparazzi recently took photos of Drew and her ‘Charlie’s Angels’ co-star, Cameron Diaz, smoking what allegedly appeared to be a marijuana cigarette on the beach in Hawaii. This creates a bit of a mixed message for Lohan, wouldn’t you say?

Britney Spears Treated By Paramedics, Makes Demands

Britney Spears‘ stay at Promises rehab center becomes more and more interesting by the minute. It was an active weekend for the former pop star, including paramedics and new demands.

The singer, who is at the center receiving intensive alcohol treatment, had family and fans worried sick on Saturday night. It is reported that paramedics were rushed to the rehab center to treat her for unknown reasons.

Causing even more concern for fans, minutes after the paramedics arrived, Britney’s mom Lynne as well as her ex Kevin Federline and their two kids Sean Preston and Jayden James also arrived at the clinic.

Officials confirmed that Spears was examined by paramedics after a call by worried staff on Saturday night.

“She is going to be OK,” a Malibu sheriff at the scene was quoted as saying.

“Police said staff were concerned about Britney - but they didn’t say why. Her mother looked very worried,” a witness told The Mirror.

More recently, Britney has reportedly demanded an entire wing at the California rehab center be cleared for her privacy.

According to press reports, Spears doesn’t want to mix with other patients and is willing to foot the bill.

An insider told British newspaper The Sun, “She wants all the rooms on her wing. It will cost her hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

It is not yet known whether or not Promises will meet Britney’s demands… where would the other patients go?

Brandon Davis Lets Insults Fly At Paris Hilton’s Party

While a birthday typically is a one day event, Paris Hilton has seemingly been celebrating her special day for the past month. First, the hotel heiress had a family celebration in Austria. That was followed up by a bash for friends held in Vegas, which was pretty uneventful.

The latest birthday party found more of Hilton’s ‘famous’ friends showing up to toast the day the socialite was born.

The night started with a meal and drinks at the Prime Grill restaurant in Beverly Hills. At the dinner of family and friends, including previously absent Nicole Richie and her boyfriend Joel Madden, Paris led her well wishers to a “wild night of fun.”

As the night started off, everything seemed to be laid back and, well, uninteresting. That all changed with one guest in attendance, the infamous Brandon Davis. For those of you who are unaware of this fella, he’s an oil heir who “enjoys looking bloated and sweaty in public, and hanging off Paris and sister Nicky,” according to Sally Grover of AHN.

Davis is also a former (or so we think) drug addict, who checked into rehab following a taped rant about Lindsay Lohan in which the nickname “Fiecrotch” was born.

At Paris’ party, Davis threw insults at both Paula Abdul and Courtney Love.... two stars who are used to a bit of ridicule. However, Davis’ antics were so abrasive that they caused both Abdul and Love to make a break for the exit.

One guest told the New York Daily News, “He was hurling flowers at Paula Abdul. Then he began bombing her with Styrofoam flower-holders. He was shouting, ‘Lick my *#@!*, Paula!’ He started mocking her ancestry by speaking gibberish in an Arabic accent.”

Paula didn’t take kindly to the attention and promptly left the restaurant. However, Davis wasn’t finished. He then moved on to Courtney Love.

Another witness recounts, “He lifted her up so that she was straddling his waist. Her Chanel dress was riding up. Brandon was saying, ‘I want to squirt on you.’ He was humping Courtney in front of her daughter, Frances Bean. When he put her down, Courtney grabbed Frances and they marched out of the restaurant through the kitchen.”

While Davis was “encouraged to leave,” he ignored the requests and followed the posse back to Hilton’s pad for the after party. But despite being life long friends, Davis’ antics were even too much for Paris.

One insider said, “Incredibly, Brandon showed up at Paris’ place. Security guided him downstairs. They were under orders to keep him away from Paris.”

Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Parenthood With Oprah

Gwyneth Paltrow has been out of the spotlight for some time now, but made a glamorous reemergence at the Academy Awards on Sunday. In a recent interview with Oprah, Gwyneth opened up about her current situation and what to expect in the future.

While conversing with talkshow host Oprah Winfrey, the Oscar-winning actress said that being a housewife is “amazing”.

Gwyneth married Coldplay singer Chris Martin in 2003 and has had two children since, Apple, 3, and Moses, 10 months.

"I’ve been at home being a housewife, which is amazing and I’ve loved every second of it,” she said.

“It’s 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week and they want you present and real and connected and there… but it’s been the best three years of my life.”

When the question of her career came up, Gwyneth said: “I’m really looking forward to it as an artist and as somebody who that part of me has been dormant for a long time.”

Movie fans can look forward to seeing Gwyneth back on the big screen near the end of this year. Projects in the pipeline for Paltrow include Dirty Tricks, which also co-stars Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep, and Iron Man, in which she will appear alongside Robert Downey Jr.

'The Departed' wins best picture

LOS ANGELES - The mob saga "The Departed" won the best-picture Academy Award on Sunday, a triumph for a homegrown American film in an evening that featured the most internationally diverse field of nominees in the history of Hollywood's highest honors.

Martin Scorsese finally won the best-director Academy Award that had eluded him throughout his illustrious career, taking the prize for his mob epic "The Departed" after five previous losses.

Forest Whitaker earned the best-actor Oscar for "The Last King of Scotland," in which the soft-spoken actor played an uncharacteristically flamboyant role as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin.

Helen Mirren reigned, winning best actress for her portrayal in "The Queen" of British monarch Elizabeth II facing ebbing loyalty after the death of Princess Diana.

Jennifer Hudson won the supporting-actress Oscar for "Dreamgirls," though her co-star and fellow front-runner Eddie Murphy lost the supporting-actor prize to Alan Arkin of "Little Miss Sunshine."

"More than anything, I'm deeply moved by the open-hearted appreciation our small film has received, which in these fragmented times speaks so openly of the possibility of innocence, growth and connection," said Arkin, who plays a foul-mouthed grandpa with a taste for heroin in the road comedy.

Hudson won an Oscar for her first movie, playing a powerhouse vocalist who falls on hard times after she is booted from a 1960s girl group. The role came barely two years after she shot to celebrity as an "American Idol" finalist.

"Oh my God, I have to just take this moment in. I cannot believe this. Look what God can do. I didn't think I was going to win," Hudson said through tears of joy. "If my grandmother was here to see me now. She was my biggest inspiration."

"Little Miss Sunshine," which came out of the low-budget independent world to become a commercial hit and major player in Hollywood's awards season, also won the original screenplay Oscar for first-time screenwriter Michael Arndt.

The film follows a ghastly but hilarious road trip by an emotionally messed-up family rushing to get their darling girl (10-year-old supporting-actress nominee Abigail Breslin) to her beauty pageant.

"When I was a kid, my family drove 600 miles in a VW bus with a broken clutch," Arndt said, describing a road trip that mirrored the one in the film. "It ended up being one of the funnest things we did together."

Katie Holmes on Motherhood: 'I Love It'

Showing off her post-baby figure in a strapless champagne-colored Armani dress, Katie Holmes tells PEOPLE of motherhood: "I love it!"

Holmes left 10-month old Suri at home with her sister-in-law Saturday night to attend a Giorgio Armani Prive fashion show in Beverly Hills to celebrate the man who designed her wedding dress.

Suri, says Holmes, is "doing really, really well. She's a beautiful little girl, and I feel so honored to be her mom, really."

Their favorite mother-daughter activity? "A lot of walking around," she says. "She loves just being outside right now."

Soon, however, Mrs. Tom Cruise will be heading back to work. "I'm going to start a film in about a month and a half called Mad Money with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton. I play a young girl who's part of three women who rob the Federal Reserve."

She adds with a smile, "It's a comedy."

Holmes says returning to work "will be another challenge but I have a wonderful, supportive husband and family, and it's another project that were going to handle together and that's part of the fun."

While husband Tom was busy filming the night of the Oscar-eve fashion show, Holmes rubbed elbows with most of the nominees – including Cruise's ex, Penelope Cruz, who posed for a photo with Holmes.

Britney Spears Visited By Federline & Sons

Its about that time for another update on Britney Spears. She seems to have finally settled into the Promises complex, shattering her previous record of one day.

Over the weekend, Britney’s ex-husband, Kevin Federline, and their two children dropped by to offer their support. This is the the second time that K-Fed has visited Britney within the past two days… he also checked in on the pop princess on Friday.

According to a SAWF source, Federline brought sons Sean Preston, 17 months and Jayden James, 7 months, to visit their mother on Saturday evening.

“The kids are his number one priority and they always have been,” a source told SAWF news. “He’s so stressed out right now. He only wants the best for Britney and the kids.”

As far as Britney’s new quarters are concerned, the place is described as more of a luxury resort than a rehab center.

The price tag is $48,000 for 30 days to enter the program. Obviously enough, the only people who can really afford a rehabilitation center like Promises are celebrities and executives. Some of the past alumni of the center include Ben Affleck, Charlie Sheen, Dianna Ross, and Matthew Perry.

Now Britney joins the ranks of these other past Promises alum, that is, if she sticks it out.

Angelina Jolie Returns to Africa

Angelina Jolie is back in Africa, traveling for a third time on behalf of the United Nations to monitor the crisis in Darfur, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

This time, Jolie, the Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the U.N. refugee agency, will not be allowed to actually go to Darfur itself, due to the violent, unstable conditions. On Sunday, Jolie arrived in N'Djamena, Chad, and she's scheduled to visit refugee camps about two miles from the border of Sudan.

Jolie is expected to stay there for a few days, Trevor Neilson, Jolie's political adviser, tells PEOPLE. Her aim with this latest trip is to continue to raise awareness about the continuing crisis, and also see the current conditions – which have deteriorated since her last trip in 2004.

In other Jolie news, the actress has been nominated to join the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank of international stalwarts including four Secretaries of State – Condoleezza Rice, Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright. Other members of the group include Alan Greenspan, Tom Brokaw and Richard Holbrooke.

Neilson says the nomination (submitted by a sitting member of the council) was approved, but the board will still need to give its final approval in June. Said Neilson: "Few people are more committed than she is to these issues."

79th Academy Awards Show Preview

The preparation complete and activities underway, Hollywood is ready to celebrate film with the 79th Academy Awards ceremony.

About 3,400 guests will start arriving at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre from 2:00 PST on, where they will be greeted by a bombardment of camera flashes from photographers shooting the world’s most star-studded fashion show.

“A massive security operation was underway early on Sunday, with streets surrounding the Oscars venue closed down and several hundred police manning checkpoints and conducting searches to ward off potential terrorist threats,” according to News 24 reports.

The Oscars ceremony, which is slated to run 3 hours, will kick off at about 5:00 PST, with all eyes on the final award of the night, best picture, which is said to be one of the most wide open races in years.

Four of the five nominees are regarded as strong contenders, with Martin Scorsese’s crime drama, The Departed, and hit independent comedy Little Miss Sunshine viewed as the marginal favorites by bookmakers. Sunshine won the Independent Spirit Award for best picture last night.

Scorsese, often described as America’s greatest living filmmaker, is widely expected to win his first Oscar for best director after being passed up on five previous occasions.

But speculation is raging as to whether Scorsese’s payback Oscar win will be accompanied by a best picture statuette for The Departed, a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs.

“However, veteran director Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima, a war epic shot in Japanese, and Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s cross-cultural ensemble drama, Babel, also are viewed as strong contenders,” reports AP insiders.

British royal drama, The Queen, is the fifth nominee and a firm outsider, even though it is likely to bring an Oscar for lead actress to Helen Mirren, who has won most every award leading up to tonight. In the best actor race, Forest Whitaker is also considered almost unbeatable, having swept all of this year’s awards for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland.

Academy Awards Scheduled Musical Performers

While the Academy Awards focus on the year in film, music will have a presence as well.

Beyonce, Melissa Etheridge, Jennifer Hudson, Randy Newman, Keith Robinson, Anika Noni Rose and James Taylor are all set to perform this year’s Oscar-nominated songs on the 79th Academy Awards show, telecast producer Laura Ziskin has announced.

According to Monsters & Critics, Beyonce will perform “Listen” (music by Henry Krieger and Scott Cutler, lyric by Anne Preven), one of three Original Song nominees from the musical “Dreamgirls.” Also from “Dreamgirls” will be Hudson singing “Love You I Do” (music by Henry Krieger and lyric by Siedah Garrett), and Rose, Robinson and other cast mates performing “Patience” (music by Henry Krieger and lyric by Willie Reale).”

Etheridge will perform “I Need to Wake Up” from the documentary feature “An Inconvenient Truth.” Etheridge wrote the music and lyric for the nominated song.

Newman will perform his nominated song “Our Town” from the animated feature “Cars” with singer-guitarist James Taylor. Newman wrote both the music and lyric for “Our Town” and also composed the film’s score.

All of the performers went through a little rehearsal on Friday and appear ready to rock the stage on Sunday night.

Eva Longoria & Tony Parker Wedding Is On

Not quite desperate, but ready to become a housewife, Eva Longoria will marry her longtime boyfriend, Tony Parker, in a $488,000 French luxury chateau, according to recent press reports.

Longoria and her fiance, a star basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs, are to wed in Paris in July of 2007. According to Now, “the lavish invitations, which are decorated with a picture of the Eiffel Tower, confirm that the event will be held near Paris.”

In a bid to keep the exact location top secret, the couple said their people would be in touch with more info before the ceremony. But it’s rumored the couple have hired out 17th-century Chateau de Chantilly, which has a moat and a racecourse.

Eva’s co-stars Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Nicollette Sheridan are all thought to be on the guest list.

Hammond bid for Woman's Hour role

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond is competing for a guest presenting role on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

He is up against broadcaster Kelvin MacKenzie and comedian Andy Hamilton for the one-off appearance on Comic Relief's Red Nose Day, 16 March.

A public phone vote will decide who co-presents alongside Martha Kearney.

Hammond returned to presenting BBC Two's Top Gear earlier this year, four months after a 280mph crash during filming left him fighting for his life.

He was given a hero's welcome on his return to the show, which showed footage of the jet-powered car crash.

Hammond suffered serious brain injuries in the accident at Elvington airfield, near York, in September, but left hospital just five weeks later.

Woman's Hour was presented by a man, Alan Ivimey, when it launched in 1946.

It became Man's Hour, for one day only, on 1 January 2005, with Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow at the helm.

Pamela Anderson Gives UGGs the Boot

After helping popularize UGGs, Pamela Anderson is now boycotting the boots after learning they're made from real sheepskin.

"I'm getting rid of our Uggs," Anderson, 39, writes in her online diary.

"I feel so guilty for that craze being started around Baywatch days – I used to wear them with my red swimsuit to keep warm – never realizing that they were SKIN!"

It seems Anderson, 39, thought the boots' woolly lining was attached to a synthetic backing. In fact, the boots are made from sheepskin with the fur intact. "I thought they were shaved kindly," she writes.

"People like to tell me all the time that I started that trend – yikes!"

A longtime animal-rights activist, Anderson suggests starting a new trend. "Do NOT buy UGGs! Buy Stella McCartney or Juicy boots – I'm looking for alternatives myself for my boys and the men in my life! I'm designing some right now for my family and will try and have some available on my Web site soon."

Still, she admits that wearing UGGs was an easy option. "It's what I grab by my door in the mornings to bring my kids to school or walk my dog on the beach at 6 a.m. or anything early – I've definitely over used them – and that's it!!!!"

When reached for comment, an UGG spokesman told PEOPLE, "Sheepskin is a natural byproduct of the food industry. There is no animal abuse in our production." The spokesman also said that Anderson has spoken out against the company in the past.

James Blunt in Injury Car Accident

British pop singer James Blunt was involved in a car accident early Saturday that injured a man outside an exclusive pre-Oscar party, police say.

Police were called to the aid of the unidentified man at 1:58 a.m. outside the house of CAA agent Bryan Lourd in West Hollywood.

The "Beautiful" singer, who had been attending the Creative Artists Agency's annual invitation-only, A-list bash, was apparently not injured. It was not clear what role he played in the accident.

"All I can do is confirm that James Blunt was involved in a traffic accident in which a man's foot was run over," Officer Norma Eisenman says.

Blunt's reps didn't return calls seeking comment.

Blunt has been making the awards season party rounds with girlfriend Petra Nemcova. On Thursday night, they celebrated his 32nd birthday at the Soho House in West Hollywood.
