Madden Rebuffed by Duff

Joel Madden is no longer Hilary Duff's most wanted. And vice versa.

The Good Charlotte rocker and the singer-actor went their separate ways earlier this month, a rep for Madden confirmed to E! News.

"I can confirm they are split, but other than that, we do not wish to talk about Joel's personal life," the rep said.

However, Madden apparently has no such hang-ups when it comes to discussing his personal life.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the tattooed musician opened up about the breakup during a deejay appearance at Chicago's Enclave nightclub last week, telling clubgoers that he and Duff parted ways due to problems caused by their eight-year age difference. (Madden is 27, Duff is 19.)

Madden reportedly said it was Duff who did the dumping, putting an end to their relationship of more than two years. The duo only went public with their romance last year, after the Lizzie McGuire star came of age.

"I've found the perfect person," Madden told People last month. "She's confident, she accepts me for my imperfections, and she is good to me. I never have to question if she's going to be there, because I know she will be."

The times, they are a-changin'.

In addition to dating, the twosome also carried on a professional relationship, with Madden producing three tracks on Duff's greatest hits album, 2005's Most Wanted.

Of late, Madden and Duff have also been entwined in a legal battle against an alleged stalker. The duo obtained restraining orders against a Russian teen last month, stating they feared for their lives. The man was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly threatened to kill Duff, a charge he has denied.

Both Duff and Madden have new albums in the works. Duff's latest is due in February, while Good Charlotte's Good Morning Revival is scheduled for a Mar. 20 release.

Eagles Of Death Metal quit Guns N' Roses tour after one show

Eagles Of Death Metal have left the current Guns N' Roses U.S. tour after just one date as the support act.

The group played their only show on the tour in Cleveland on Friday, quitting despite being scheduled to complete all 15 concerts.

EODM, who include occasional member Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age on drums, were angered by the reaction from the crowd, who booed last week's performance.

Axl Rose is also understood to have dismissed the group from the stage during their headlining set, calling them "the pigeons of sh*t metal", reports Billboard.

EODM apparently quit immediately and the following evening's show in Michigan was opened by Novadriver, a local group.

In a statement, frontman Jesse Hughes commented: "At first the audience refused to welcome us to the jungle, but by the time we took our final bow, it had become paradise city. Although Axl tried to November rain on our parade, no sweet child o' mine can derail the EODM night train. We say live and let die."

Britney Spears sex tape for sale?

An infamous Britney Spears "sex tape" is reportedly being touted to the highest bidder, in the aftermath of her separation from Kevin Federline.

A leading porn mogul claims to have been approached about the tape last week, just days after Spears served divorce papers on Federline.

David Hans Schmidt, who is said to have bought and dispersed explicit footage on a number of entertainment figures, says he believes the footage will be leaked.

"Two days after Britney filed for divorce I was contacted by an individual who indicated that he had a digital video of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline having sex. This gentleman knew enough names and identified enough parties involved to indicate that the tape could exist," Schidmt told MSNBC.com.

Allegations about the Spears and Federline sex tape have been rife for some time. A U.S. judge recently dismissed a $10 million defamation lawsuit brought by the couple. Spears and Federline were seeking substantial libel damages from US Weekly, who suggested that the couple had made the video in an article last year

Linkin Park's Hack Attack

Here's a collision course Chester Bennington would rather avoid.

An avid fan of the Linkin Park singer has been arrested for illegally hacking Bennington's cell phone and calling and threatening his wife.

New Mexico's Albuquerque Journal reports that Devon Townsend used her job at the Sandia National Laboratories to gain access to a Verizon Wireless Website and obtain 30-year-old Bennington's private account information, including his cell phone number, phone bill and various other numbers he's called, as well as digital photos he snapped using the phone.

Per court documents, the New Mexico native also broke into the email of the rocker's missus, former Playboy Playmate Talinda Bennington, and made hostile phone calls to her, which prompted the Benningtons to file a report police last month claiming they were being stalked.

Investigators traced the phone calls back to Sandia's technology and manufacturing division, and Townsend was taken into custody on Saturday and booked on federal charges accusing her of using a laboratory computer to hack into a cell phone company's Website.

A subsequent search of her Albuquerque home turned up a trove of fan collectibles, including posters of the rap-metal outfit, pirated Linkin Park music, a picture of her with Bennington and autographed memorabilia, as well as personal messages and photos swiped from the couple's email account.

Officials say the evidence recovered against Townsend includes a copy of Bennington's 34-page Verizon bill containing a history of his phone usage, including calls to his Linkin Park bandmates and other celebrity pals. The lab worker was also able to download 78 digital pictures Bennington emailed friends, including shots of the rocker's children during a family trip to Japan that were for private use only.

After her arrest, investigators say Townsend admitted to her "online hacking activity" and to making two threatening phone calls anonymously to Talinda Bennington. According to the Benningtons' original police report, the caller said, "I know where you live...I watch your kids...I have complete control of your life."

Chester and Talinda married New Year's Eve 2005 and welcomed their first son, Tyler, in March. The performer also has another son, Draven, from a previous marriage.

A spokesman for Sandia said Townsend's computer access was restricted as soon as company officials found out about the incident, and she has since been fired.

"She's no longer employed," rep Michael Padilla told E! Online, adding that Townsend did not gain access to classified data and that the laboratory, which develops science-based technologies for national security purposes, was cooperating with law enforcement agents.

According to prosecutors, Townsend appeared in U.S. District Court last Tuesday, waived her right to a preliminary hearing and was released to her mother's custody.

A publicist for Linkin Park at Warner Bros. Music declined to comment; Townsend's attorney, Ray Twohig, was out of the office and did not immediately respond to messages.

However, the lawyer downplayed the incident to the Associated Press, saying authorities were still examining his client's computer to determine exactly what transgressions, if any, were committed.

"This is the Internet version of a groupie hiding in Mick Jagger's dressing room," Twohig said to the wire service. "We're in a different age, and fans have more skills than they used to."

Meanwhile, Bennington has been busy with Linkin Park. The band is working with veteran producer Rick Rubin on a new studio album.

In a December interview with Blender magazine, the Grammy winners said that the new offering, which has been given the mysterious Mad Libs-like title, T------- and T--------, veers away from their usual hard-rocking nu metal sound. It's expected to hit stores in 2007, after which Linkin Park has lined up a gig headlining the Bamboozle Festival May 5-6 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Willa Ford Engaged to NHL Player

Willa Ford doesn't wanna be bad anymore—she wants to be married.

The pop star confirmed to E! News' Samantha Harris that she had accepted a proposal from Dallas Stars player Mike Modano, her on-again, off-again boyfriend of more than four years.

Ford, 25, showed off her diamond sparkler at the Arby's Action Sports Awards in Los Angeles Thursday, where she told Access Hollywood that Modano, 36, popped the question in bed.

"We were out to dinner the other night, and I think he had [the ring] with him the entire night," she said.

"He was really nervous. Then right before we went to sleep he asked me and I said, 'Yes.' "

The proposal comes on the heels of reports that Ford was romantically involved with her Dancing with the Stars partner Maksim Chmerkoskiy.

"Everybody thought it was going to be Maks!" Ford said to Extra of her engagement.

The duo was eliminated from Dancing in October after the fifth week of competition. Shortly thereafter, Ford said in an ABC interview that they were "not an official couple," while Chmerkovskiy posted on his Website that they were "very close friends."

"I really like her and we are having a great time together. If you don't mind I would like to leave it at that," Chmerkovskiy wrote.

The fleet-footed twosome was due to reunite for the Dancing with the Stars Tour later this month, but Chmerkovskiy was forced to pull out for personal reasons and Ford opted not to participate without him.

Instead, the singer will be heading into the studio to work on her next album, which is due out next summer.

She and Modano plan to wed at the conclusion of his hockey season.

Boys And Girls In America

You read the lyric sheet and it’s all about teenagers and young rockers getting stoned and out of hand and kids lapsing into comas and having sex. And it’s readily apparent that the Hold Steady’s Craig Finn hasn’t been staying in many four star hotels with his Brooklyn-based quintet as they try to transform into a modern day heartland rock band on their third full length album. Louder than ever -- with a new emphasis on keyboards and orchestration, lending them a Springsteen-Meat Loaf- West Side Story vibe -- the Hold Steady have grand ambition dripping from every angle. As singer and writer, Finn tries out a few extra notes, conquers the power ballad with “First Night,” sends the band crashing into Thin Lizzy for “Hot Soft Light” and into the Eagles for the album’s closer “Southtown Girls.” Finn loves words and his guitarist Tad Kubler loves riffs. Together, they make a classic duo in pursuit of classic rock.

Jimmy Buffett settles trademark lawsuit

Jimmy Buffett and a Galveston merchant he accused of unlawfully using his trademark to sell goods at an online store have settled the matter — but not before the merchant spent a few hours in jail.

A lawsuit filed last month in federal court sought to shut down Robert Akard's Web site, http://www.underonehut.com.

Anthony Buzbee, a lawyer for Buffett, had accused Akard of unlawfully selling bootleg and marked-up Buffett items on the site, including T-shirts and other items depicting either Buffett or slogans associated with the singer.

Songs recorded by Buffett, 59, include "Margaritaville," "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise."

Akard's lawyer, Darrell Apffel, had called Buffett a financial empire trying to shut down a small business.

On Nov. 13, U.S. District Court Judge Samuel Kent issued a temporary restraining order telling Akard to shut down his site until the case was resolved. On Monday, Kent ordered Akard into custody for contempt of court after finding Akard had disregarded the order.

After spending a few hours in jail, Akard agreed to stop selling any item that bore Buffett's likeness or any of his registered slogans or images. Akard also must turn over all inventory bearing such images or slogans to Buffett's attorneys.

The order didn't require Akard to shut down his site as long as all Buffett-related references were removed.

Phone messages left Thursday with Buzbee and Apffel weren't immediately returned.

The Kooks : Inside In/Inside Out

Brighton, England’s Kooks –named after a tune on David Bowie’s Hunky Dory LP – are another group who have studied their rock history so well they can spit out whatever combination they feel up to at any given moment. It’s no coincidence that fellow scholars hear everything from the Kinks – whose Konk studios were used in the album’s recording – to Supergrass to Thin Lizzy all without suggesting they sound like any of these groups. These youngsters have a lightness of touch, a cheeky enthusiasm that makes even their most dire forecasts sound like invitations to party in their private hotel suite. Whether they’re exploring “Jackie Big Tits” or “Eddie’s Gun,” they do so with an inquisitive earnestness. “You Don’t Love Me” crashes forth with a reckless sway that doesn’t care if it knocks over a few lamps in the process. Collateral damage only makes things more interesting. Besides, they’ll be a thousand miles away by the time the damage is discovered. These guys move fast.

Nelly Furtado and Kylie Minogue reportedly recording duet

Nelly Furtado and Kylie Minogue are planning to record a duet together, according to reports.

The pair of pop songbirds are understood to have been discussing the collaboration for some time, as Nelly explained: "We've been talking about it for a while. I can relate to her because she has this crazy work ethic like me, and I love the fact she went back and followed up her tour."

Kylie Minogue returned to the live stage in Australia last month, after undergoing surgery for breast cancer. Nelly Furtado is currently promoting her latest single, "Say It Right."

Marsalis : Politics influenced new album

On Wynton Marsalis' upcoming CD, he criticizes political leadership in America, cultural corruption, and sex and violence in rap — and that's just on one song. "I don't speak from outside, I'm not finger-pointing," the 45-year-old jazz great told The Associated Press in a recent interview.

"I'm a part of it, I'm speaking from inside of our culture," Marsalis said. "We're not taking a moralistic view. It's not, `Let me tell y'all how I'm different from you.' It's a comment on our way of life and our culture."

"From the Plantation to the Penitentiary" is due out March 6. Marsalis calls it his most political album in years.

"It's been in my mind for a while. Every decade I like to do one piece that has that kind of social involvement with American culture," he said.

But a look at some of the lyrics shows Marsalis is disenchanted with that culture. "The Return of Romance" appears to take rappers to task, accusing them of being modern-day minstrels with "song-less tunes"; "Super Capitalism" chastises those obsessed with materialistic goals; and "Where Y'all At," among other things, criticizes '60s radicals and idealists who have lost their revolutionary slant.

"Where Y'all At" is notable because it features Marsalis as the vocalist, delivering a sort of rap chant.

"I always try and do something different. I don't try to make any of my records the same," he said. "I'm always singing and chanting all over my house. I grew up doing it in New Orleans, chanting and singing and making up rhymes; long before there was rap music we were doing that. That's the New Orleans' way."

Though the album has its pointed moments, Marsalis isn't completely pessimistic about American culture. He noted the outpouring of support from citizens nationwide after Hurricane Katrina as an example of what people can do when they are aware of a problem.

"That's the one thing the Katrina episode taught us about America. Americans can be moved to do things when they have good information, honest information. People are more serious, people do want to participate in things," he said.

J.Lo's ex fights to release tell-all

Jennifer Lopez's first husband, Ojani Noa, told a judge Friday that he plans to fight her efforts to quash a tell-all memoir.

Noa, 31, said in a pretrial hearing that he regrets agreeing to a June 30 preliminary injunction that prohibits him from "criticizing, denigrating, casting in a negative light or otherwise disparaging or causing disparagement" to Lopez.

"I want to fight this thing to the end," he said. "My life has not been the same since this lawsuit was filed."

The judge gave Noa until Jan. 17 to hire a lawyer or represent himself.

Lopez filed her lawsuit April 10 and obtained a temporary restraining order barring Noa from publishing intimate details of their sex life.

Noa said Friday that Lopez misunderstood what the book was about.

"This was to be about my life story, coming here from Cuba," he said. "She was only a part of my life, but I was going to talk about my other girlfriends, as well."

Lopez, who has appeared in films such as "Selena" and "Out of Sight," married Noa in February 1997 after meeting him in a Miami restaurant. They divorced 11 months later.
