Busta Rhymes Loses Work |
The notorious Trevor Smith (aka Busta Rhymes) found himself without work this month, when he was banned from a film set in New York City.
Although the rapper has had other legal problems this past year, including a physical altercation over payment with his old driver, none have raised as many eyebrows as this latest unusual development unfolds.
"The production agreed that Busta Rhymes would not be participating in the scenes shot here, after the Police Department raised public safety concerns,” said Julianne Cho, associate commissioner with the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting.
Police concern still isn’t clear, as they have been unwilling to elaborate on their statement to the production staff. However, the ‘concern’ probably extends to the shooting of Busta Rhymes bodyguard, Israel Ramirez, who was killed during a music video filming. It seems Busta was less than cooperative, leaving police a bit irritated.
Despite the lack of a story on the police side, the NY Times reported that “producers were unable to meet the cost of extra officers that police said were necessary due to Rhymes’ ‘celebrity status.’”
Whether it is fair or not, it seems Busta is paying for the year old ordeal. Busta doesn’t seem to be without friends though, as director Jeff Celentano made his feelings clear through his publicist.
“This is tremendously unfair to Busta, who has been nothing but professional during this project. This is a bigger loss for the city of New York.”
Hopefully this unfortunate setback will be mended and the cast and crew can finish their movie. |
