US actor charged over death crash

Former Prison Break star Lane Garrison has been charged with manslaughter and drunken driving after his car crashed, killing a 17-year-old passenger.

Mr Garrison's Land Rover hit a kerb before crashing into a tree in Los Angeles on 2 December last year. The crash killed Vahagn Setian, 17, and injured two 15-year-old girls who were also in the car.

Mr Garrison, 26, was freed on bail. He is due to appear at Beverly Hills Superior Court on 11 April.

'Sense of responsibility' The actor is charged with four offences - manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing injury to multiple victims, driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit causing injury, and giving alcohol to a minor.

The judge has banned Mr Garrison from driving, drinking alcohol and going to bars. He is also barred from contacting victims or witnesses of the crash. The actor's lawyer, Harland Braun, said his client "has a deep sense of responsibility".

He said Mr Garrison is "going to accept responsibility for his conduct. The only question is what is that level of responsibility".

In a statement, members of Mr Setian's family said they were "gratified" by the charges.

"They have lost their only child to Lane Garrison's recklessness," they said in the statement released by their lawyer, Paul R Kiesel. Mr Garrison played David "Tweener" Apolskis in Fox show Prison Break. His character was killed off last year.
